The five-county Operation Buffalo Trace is represented by Harrison County Sheriff Bruce Hampton. It is a consortium of law enforcement agencies, including the US Marshal Service, the Kentucky State Police and city and county law enforcement, that is tasked with ensuring that sex offenders are registered when they change residences. The O.B.T. includes that five-county area of Harrison, Bracken, Robertson, Mason and Pendleton counties.

Births announced this week are: Allison Brooke Conley was born to Nathan and Tammy Conley on April 8, 1999. Matthew Joseph Fugate was born to Darlie and Angela Fugate on April 13, 1999. Hayden Thomas Palmer was born to Christopher and Judy Palmer on Feb. 28, 1999.
Last Tuesday’s horrific school shootings at Columbine High School, in Colorado, hit close to home for two people at HCHS. Jim Schmidt, a teacher and coach at HCHS, has a nephew who narrowly missed being a victim of those shootings. Rachael Cody, a freshman at HCHS, moved here from Littleton, Colorado, and has many friends who attended the school.
HCHS distance runner Karen Lutes has signed a letter-of-intent to run for the Morehead State University track and cross country teams. She is the daughter of Mitchell and Phyllis Lutes.
Former HCHS baseball standout Terry Smith, a sophomore at Campbellsville University, currently is one of the Tigers leading hitters with a batting average of .350.

Junior baseball player Mark Clifford hit the first grand slam home run by a Thorobred in at least six years, last week in a win over Mt. Olivet Deming. He also holds the HCHS record for most strikeouts in a game by a pitcher with 16. Earlier in the season, he hit three home runs in a two game span and also had 10 RBIs in those two games.
Six Harrison County 4-H’ers are county champions and participated at the Bluegrass Area Demonstrations contest, held last Saturday. They are Pattie McCauley, Karen Doan, Marlene Martin, Dan Clifford, Patricia McCauley and Mac McCauley. Winners in that contest were Pattie McCauley (senior division clothing), Patricia McCauley (junior division animal science) and Dan Clifford (junior division electric.)
